About Me
Junya FUKUTA, Ph.D.
Associate Professor at the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Chuo University
Adjunct Lecturer at Graduate School of Letters and Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Chuo University
By-Fellow at Churchill College, University of Cambridge
I pursue a study of human cognition by applying linguistic insights and employing experimental psychology techniques to uncover its individuality and diversity.
With roots in Miyagi Prefecture and an upbringing in Nagoya City, Aichi, I moved through five regions with my father before earning my Ph.D. at Nagoya University in 2016 at the age of 27. My academic journey began with appointments at institutions such as Nagoya University of Foreign Studies, Nagoya Zoukei University, the Language and Communication Research Centre at the University of Shizuoka, and Shizuoka University’s Faculty of Education. Through these roles, I engaged deeply with research that seeks to bridge theory of second language acquisition and pedagogy, uncovering insights with relevant to language education.
In 2019, I joined Chuo University as an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, expanding my research scope. Since 2020, I have also lectured in applied linguistics, language acquisition, and psycholinguistics at Housei University, Rikkyo University, and Chuo University’s Graduate School of Letters and Graduate School of Science and Engineering. During this phase, my scholarly pursuits evolved to address the interplay between language acquisition and cognitive science, with a focus on elucidating language acquisition/processing mechanisms. I am honored to currently hold a By-Fellowship at the University of Cambridge for 2024-2025, which further enriches this pursuit. I currently live with my wife and our daughter, who was born in 2024.
My research contributions have been published in prominent international journals, including Applied Linguistics, Second Language Research, Journal of Second Language Studies, Applied Psycholinguistics, IRAL – International Review of Applied Linguistics in Language Teaching, System, Language Teaching Research, and Language Awareness.
